The Great Minneapolis Pecan Roll-off, 2009
I love a good pecan roll (could be my favorite food item, ever), and for some reason I equate Minneapolis with this delectable deliciousness. Here’s what I found this trip:
Key’s Cafe. I was pumped to try this caramel roll, as the menu touts it as “famous.” This was my least favorite of the week, possibly because it was sans pecans. Also, this is not served a la mode....

Where to Eat in Minneapolis
In addition to the new restaurants I want to try, I obviously have my favorite Minneapolis standbys. The places I frequented for four years, and still crave on an almost constant basis. Here are my must eats in Minneapolis.
The Local. When I moved to Minneapolis in 2002, my first downtown dining experience was at this Irish bar/restaurant. My freshman year roomie and I became obsessed with the...

Trinity Place, Financial District
Last week my friend Stephanie introduced me to Trinity Place, a Financial District bar that is in, hilariously, an old bank vault. Along with our cocktails we enjoyed these tasty treats.
Lobster BLT.
Mini Pigs in a Blanket.

Minneapolis Foodies--HELP!
Hello all my Minneapolis readers! I’ll be heading to the Cities this week and obviously already have all my meals planned—all but TWO spots I’m leaving open for places I haven’t been. I’ve narrowed it down to the following five. Which place do you think is the best?
Azia
Barrio
Heidi’s
Moto-i
Restaurant Alma

Luxee Dessert Cafe, Lower East Side--CLOSED
A few weeks ago (I know, I know, for a blogger I’m not very time sensitive) my friend Andrea and I attended an all-you-can-eat dessert party at Luxee Dessert Cafe. Let me tell you, eating that much dessert is really hard! And this coming from someone who loves sweets! But I gave it my best shot, all in the name of eat your chow.
The first dish was far and away my favorite. Crepe Suzette:...

Oliva, Lower East Side
I’m always looking for a good tapas restaurant in New York. Pipa is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, even though the food quality has gone down, the service is most times pretty rotten, and the value isn’t so great. I feel like it might be time for me to stop being so charmed by the place and see what else is out there. (But the food is so tasty and the chandeliers so...

New Orleans Wine and Food Experience
For Memorial Day weekend I was fortunate to attend the NOWFE. I spent two days scouring the Superdome (150 wine vendors and 50+ chef booths set up EACH day) for New Orleans’ best eats. (This is how you get around) Here’s my Top Five Best in Show, followed by some other interesting dishes.
Lobster Ravioli with Mango, Astor Crown Plaza. How my favorite dish came from a hotel, not even...

The Stanton Social, Lower East Side
(photo via loremipsum)
I again didn’t take food pics at The Stanton Social, but I think these descriptions speak for themselves. It was a fantastic, innovative dinner and I can’t wait to return. Perhaps to try the brunch menu?
Here’s what I ate, in order of favorite to least favorite:
Red Snapper Tacos with creamy avocado & spicy mango
Wild Mushroom Risotto Cakes dusted...

Del Porto, New Orleans
I didn’t get to eat at this restaurant (just outside of New Orleans), but Del Porto did the food for an Italian wine tasting I attended, and it was some of the best eats I had all weekend.
First off, crostini. Starting up front and going clockwise: duck liver pate with pickled onion relish; rabbit with zucchini and pickles; and in the back, a cheese and relish spread. Now two of these...

Arnaud's, New Orleans
Arnaud’s was another fantastic New Orleans dining experience. Besides the tasty Creole food, what I liked here is there are two separate dining options: the massive traditional fine dining room, and a smaller tiled jazz bistro with a jazz trio that worked the crowd with table side serenades. One couple even got up to jive. I chose to dine in the jazz bistro, for obvious reasons (or because I...
