A Casa Fox, Lower East Side

Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly spend any more time on the Orchard block between Houston and Stanton (thanks kickball league!), I was introduced to A Casa Fox, a Latin/tapas restaurant that had totally snuck right by me. This place is everything you want your New York restaurant to be: cozy (only a dozen tables, fireplace, couch), quirky (book- and knickknack-lined shelves, mismatched furniture), can accommodate groups (one large table seats 10, small plates are great to share) and cheap (I left wined and stuffed for under $30).
And most importantly, the food was yum. The large open kitchen churned out tasty small plates; if you’re not sure you like dates, you will love them stuffed with chorizo and wrapped in bacon. The sweet and salty balance was true flavor explosion—hands down the best thing I ate here.
