Eating My Way Through the Brooklyn Flea, Part II: Brownie Challenge

Are brownies (and maybe Rice Krispies bars) the best loved, most classic dessert ever? I think so. The best brownie I’ve ever had is available at the Brooklyn Flea, from SCRATCHbread Bakery. When I got one a few weeks ago, the owner taunted, “how many times have we seen you here?!” Um…pretty much every weekend. Brownie Binger busted.
But while perusing the other food stands, I noticed Choice Market had just one brownie left in its basket. It was on: a brownie smackdown for the ages.
The contender: SCRATCHbread

I call ‘em “Fudgy Brownies,” and the name says it all. They’re stuffed with dark chocolate butter cream, sandwiched between two fudgy cakes dusted with cocoa powder. Normally I’m not a cocoa powder fan, but it perfectly balances out the rich, sweet gooeyness. Flavor explosion.
The challenger: Choice Market

Looked like your classic, dense brownie. Plus I love a little powdered sugar on top. Unfortunately this little puppy was dried out (sitting outside all day?) and crumbly.
The champion: SCRATCHbread, hands down. I have actually yet to find a better brownie anywhere. If you know of one, please point me in that direction! Until then, make your way to the Flea and enjoy.
