About

Eating my way through the Big Apple and around the world.

Always in favor of extraordinary flavor versus saving a few calories, I’m constantly seeking the best restaurants, recipes, and random little food finds. This blog chronicles my discoveries, most of which are located in New York City, the foodie heaven I am fortunate to call home.

I've been in NYC since 2006, via Green Bay and Minneapolis. After living in Manhattan for five years, I finally made the move to Brooklyn (Greenpoint) at the end of 2011. I could not be more excited to discover and devour all the great eats in my new borough. (Recommendations very welcome!)

I take my photos with a point-and-shoot Canon PowerShot SD850. Which goes to show that if you're passionate about photography but can't afford fancy camera equipment, you can still take quality photos.

What do people have against egg yolks?

Smoked Salmon and Swiss Crepe from Montmartre, Washington, DC

In an effort to get more protein in my diet, I’ve started eating an egg every morning for breakfast (in addition to my toast and green tea). My preferred egg preparation is over easy. I ordered it from the chef at our cafeteria. His response: “You don’t want the yolk broken?” Me: “No.” Him: “Don’t break the yolk?!” Me: “Um, no” (semi-self consciously at this point).

This entire week, every person in the egg line has ordered egg white omelettes, sandwiches, and scrambles. Not a single yolk to be found, let alone an unbroken one. What gives? I understand they’re fatty, but they also have the most nutrients. And to be honest, that runny yolk is my favorite part of the whole egg.

  8. marvaskitchen answered: I think egg yolks have fallen out of favour in some places due to salmonella scares. See latest American headlines about recalled eggs…
  9. clio-jlh answered: Many people (not me) are really grossed out by the texture of a runny egg yolk or even soft scrambled eggs. Plus, yeah, diet craziness.
  10. audrabirek answered: the yolk is the best, tonight i am making a pizza with an egg in the middle so good!
